[00:00:04] Welcome to the Be A Good Wheel Podcast where we explore the many dimensions of what it means

[00:00:09] to be a good wheel. I'm your host Amber Pierce. I've dedicated more than half my life to

[00:00:14] elite and professional sport, first competing as a nationally ranked swimmer and later racing

[00:00:19] internationally as a professional road cyclist. I've always been as curious about the hard

[00:00:23] science as I am about the abstract, philosophical and experiential aspects of exploring human

[00:00:29] potential. Throughout my athletic career, I went out of my way to learn from extraordinary

[00:00:33] athletes and experts. In cycling, a good wheel can refer to anyone you'd seek out in the middle

[00:00:38] of a bike race, which is to say the people you want to be around when you're in a group

[00:00:42] of 100 bike racers speeding around in tight formation on skinny tires. But this podcast,

[00:00:49] like the concept of a good wheel, isn't just about bike racing or even about bikes.

[00:00:53] I will use plenty of cycling related analogies, but being a good wheel is a way of showing

[00:00:59] up in the world. That's why this isn't a podcast about how to be a good wheel. There

[00:01:04] is no prescription, hack or even step by step manual for how to be a good wheel. Instead,

[00:01:09] we'll explore the many different ways that people can and do show up for one another,

[00:01:14] which is to say how we can show up for ourselves, our relationships and our communities and

[00:01:19] the many ways we can find meaning in doing so. We'll talk to people from all walks

[00:01:23] of life, dig into research, pick the brains of experts and tell stories, tune

[00:01:28] in to feel affirmed as a human being inspired to grow and empowered to be a good wheel.
